About Botox & Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation

Botox and non-surgical facial rejuvenation reduce visible signs of aging and refine skin health and appearance. These treatments stimulate different body processes with different biologic therapies and technologies, including neurotoxins, plasma concentrates, energy-based devices, mechanical tools, and more.

At our Lincoln Park, Chicago Medspa, we offer Botox and many other non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments. Dr. Phelps and his team tailor each one to your personal goals to help you achieve radiant, healthier-looking skin you can feel confident about.

Personal Consultation

During your personal consultation, our aesthetic nurses will meet with you individually to explain what each non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatment entails, finalize your candidacy, and create your treatment plan. They will ask you about your skin and appearance concerns, your skincare regimen, and any previous treatments you may have undergone. They will also perform a thorough evaluation of your skin. Our team will then review this information and decide which treatment, or combination of treatments, will best suit your goals.

To schedule this personal consultation at our Chicago MedSpa, please contact us online or call (312) 888-5754.

Preparation

You may need to make certain preparations before your treatment. Your directions will vary depending on the type of treatment you receive, but they may include:

  • Adjusting Your Regimen: Refrain from using harsh skincare products that may affect your skin’s natural barrier.
  • Discontinuing Certain Medications: Unless medically necessary, stop taking any blood-thinning medications or supplements.
  • Protect Your Skin: Wear proper sun protection when leaving the house, and ensure you avoid direct, excessive, or unprotected sun exposure.
  • Refrain from Certain Substances: Avoid consuming nicotine or alcohol in the weeks leading up to your treatment.

Botox and Other Injectable Treatments

Injectable treatments are gel-like solutions and serums. Each varies in its formulation, indication, and mechanism of action, but they produce unique effects that leave your skin looking and feeling refreshed.

BOTOX®

Botox is a neuromodulator, which means it works by relaxing your facial muscles to stop the repeated contractions that cause wrinkles. (1) It is especially effective for decreasing glabellar lines, crow’s feet, horizontal forehead lines, nasolabial folds, or wrinkles around the mouth. Botox is also popular among younger patients as a form of “pre-juvenation,” as it can prevent new signs of aging in some cases.

Sculptra®

Sculptra is an injectable that can achieve natural-looking, long-lasting volume. Its active ingredient is poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which encourages collagen production in the treatment area. (2)

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a treatment that can revitalize your skin’s health and appearance using the regenerative properties of whole blood. Dr. Phelps will create a concentrated solution of plasma using a sample of your blood before injecting it beneath the skin. This solution may enhance the elasticity, appearance, and overall health of your skin. (3)

Skin Rejuvenation Treatments

Our skin rejuvenation treatments include non-surgical treatments that can help you achieve tighter, clearer, more radiant, and youthful-looking skin. These treatments and devices utilize either light, laser, energy, heat, or mechanical technologies to achieve their effects. During your personal consultation, Dr. Phelps can determine which treatment, or combination of treatments, will best suit your goals.

SkinPen® Microneedling

SkinPen® is a microneedling device that creates a controlled injury on the skin’s surface to restore a smoother, more youthful look and feel. This device uses fine needles to create uniform micro-channels, which then stimulate neocollagenesis and skin remodeling. (4)

Morpheus8

Morpheus8 is a cutting-edge device that combines the benefits of microneedling and radiofrequency (RF) energy. (5) RF energy is a type of electromagnetic energy that your skin absorbs as mild thermal energy, causing a skin-tightening effect to occur. When you combine this with the collagen-stimulating effects of microneedling, you can reduce concerns such as rosacea or hyperpigmentation and achieve more refreshed, rejuvenated skin.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a topical solution containing skin-safe acids that can exfoliate the superficial layers of your skin to remove layers of dead and damaged cells, as well as enhance cellular turnover. Chemical peels are available as light, medium, or deep, depending on their strength and depth. (6) At Chicago Oculofacial Plastic Surgery, we offer all three strengths of chemical peel.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a non-invasive treatment that uses light-based energy to correct superficial skin concerns, such as sun damage, facial redness, blemishes, and other pigmentation concerns. IPL uses several different wavelengths of light, which are absorbed by the cells responsible for pigment and redness. Your body then naturally clears these cells away. (7) Because it uses several wavelengths instead of a single focused one, it can be used on larger and broader regions of the face.

Sofwave™

Sofwave is a non-invasive treatment that uses ultrasound energy to lift sagging skin, reduce cellulite, and soften visible signs of aging, such as wrinkles and fine lines. The Sofwave device features Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam (SUPERB) and Sofcool technology™—some of the latest advancements in ultrasound technology. (8) With them, the Sofwave device can penetrate the deepest levels of skin to stimulate the production of collagen while maintaining the comfort of the uppermost skin.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing

CO2 laser resurfacing uses laser energy to stimulate neocollagenesis and restore smoother, younger-looking skin. This is an ablative laser treatment, which means it removes the outermost layer of skin to address concerns such as periocular wrinkles, uneven skin texturing and tone, visible signs of aging, moles and blemishes, and scarring. (8)

UltraClear® Laser

The UltraClear laser is an ablative fractional laser that can target multiple layers of your skin to address both superficial and underlying concerns. (9) This treatment uses cold fiber laser technology, which minimizes unwanted damage to the surrounding tissues with controlled thermal energy. We offer several treatments using this system, including 3DMIRACL®, Ultra & Clear, and Laser-Coring™.

  • 3DMIRACL®: This ablative treatment removes the outermost layers of your skin while delivering controlled coagulation. By doing so, it can address dullness and damage.
  • Ultra & Clear: These are the UltraClear laser’s two modes. Ultra uses 3DIntelliPulse technology to simulate the production of new collagen and elastin deep within the skin. Clear uses cold fractional ablation to correct visible concerns on the skin’s surface, such as blemishes or wrinkles.
  • Laser-Coring™: This treatment creates micro-channels on the skin’s surface using laser energy to stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin fibers within the treatment area. It can target concerns such as deep creases or facial scarring—all while elevating your skin’s natural elasticity, firmness, and overall appearance.

Erbium Laser Skin Resurfacing

Erbium laser skin resurfacing can create smoother, more youthful-looking skin. This laser targets the water in the skin to improve a range of concerns and conditions across all skin types.

Tixel®

Tixel is a fractional thermal device that uses thermo-mechanical energy to elevate the health of the skin while also improving the absorption of topical treatments. This device delivers controlled bursts of heat energy to the skin and is suitable for most skin types and tones.
